Adventure: Traveling on a Budget

7:40 AM

When I was younger, I had a few more (financially) fortunate friends that had the opportunity to travel the world at the age of 18. I would obsess over their photos, lusting over their experience with a tinge of envy and jealousy. When I'd voice my desire to travel, many of them would tell me two simple words: So travel.

I'd roll my eyes. As if it were that easy, I thought -- I didn't have that sort of money, if I did, I'd be traveling.

The funny thing is, I did. I simply wasn't prioritizing it.Traveling isn't all that expensive. At least not as expensive as people make it out to be. Yes, venturing to Japan, Europe, or Australia will run you a couple thousands of dollars, but there's plenty of traveling you can do that's a bit more affordable, and there are ways you can make that European adventure a little more affordable.

1. Kayak is your best friend: Sign up for price alerts, and watch your flight - or any flight, for that matter -  like a hawk. Traveling on a budget is all about finding the right deal. You have to shop around until you find the price you're comfortable paying.

2. Delete your cookies:  You've heard this before, I'm sure, but it really is true -- your SEO keeps track of what you're searching and you'll find the prices much more expensive if you search the same flight too many times. Delete your cookies after three or four times of searching the same flight to keep costs low

3. Bookings.com saves the day:  This website is perfect when searching for a hotel -- it automatically provides you great deals (I'm talking less than $200 for 3 nights at a 3 star hotel), photos of the hotel and the option to book now, pay later. If you plan your trip with enough time, this is a huge advantage as it offers you the chance to save for it.

4. Groupon: You'd be amazed at the amazing travel deals offered on our favorite penny-saving site -- many of which are international and all inclusive. You can also use Groupon to find cool activities in the city you're about to visit at a more affordable price - you'd be surprised how many main attractions are listed on there.

5. Travel Locally & Nationally: People act as if you're not really traveling unless you're jet-setting half way around the world -- I know this because I used to be one of these people, and I was so frickin' wrong for ever thinking that way.

The truth is, I haven't been to another continent yet, and that's okay. I've still traveled plenty  in the last two years and I've still grown from these experiences. It's always important to save for the expensive trips (currently doing that now, #Europe2016, hey now!) but in the mean time, you can see plenty in your own country that'll expand your mind, change your perspective and allow you to do cool shit.

To close out this post, I'll leave you with this advice: you want to travel...SO TRAVEL.
