Adventure: Eating Your Way through Chi-Town
7:49 AM
When I first announced my trip to Chicago, I was flooded with suggestions and well wishes. Everyone that's been to the Windy City seemed to absolutely love it, and everyone seemed even more excited to suggest a few of their top restaurant choices.
Red Velvet French Toast from Yolk |
1. Giardanos -- There's a reason it's a staple, and you'll thank me once you've indulged in one of the most ridiculous pizza's you'll ever have in your life.
This extra cheesy, extra meaty, extra delicious pizza will have you unbuckling your pants. We ordered a small , which came out to three slices each. Piece of cake, right? We barely made it through a slice and half.
We also made the mistake of ordering their delicious sampler platter, complete with cheesy garlic bread, fried cheese and crispy ravioli.
If I can leave you with one piece of advice, it's this: Go hungry, don't order appetizers and don't plan on eating for the rest of the day.
The foodie game is real at this establishment, with unique entrees (tapas style), great wine selections and beautiful presentations.
Below you'll see our favorite dish of the evening -- squid stuffed with prosciutto and bread crumbs, topped off with a squid ink sauce that was absolutely to die for.
We also enjoyed the pork shoulder (not pictured -- sorry, guys -- we ate it before remembering to snap it. Sometimes you gotta live in the moment.)
Here we have our delicious crepe dessert. A-MA-ZING!!!

3. Yolk - Alexis and I love eggs. I mean, we reallllly love eggs. We believe they belong on absolutely everything and will make any dish taste instantly better, so when we came across this small franchise as we walked to the Navy Peer, we decided it was a must-have for our Saturday morning breakfast.
All I can say is...POT ROAST BENEDICT and RED VELVET FRENCH TOAST. Hand-down, the best food I've ever had.
So much food, he didn't know what do with himself. |
4. Bernie's Lunch & Supper - I'll admit, we didn't stop by for lunch or supper, HOWEVER, we did make reservations for brunch long before arriving in the city and we are so glad we did. We indulged in their specialty french toast (seen below) that had a caramelized glaze to it, taking on a more Spaniard approach. It was unlike any other french toast we've ever had.
But what really had us wanting more was the Bernie's Cheese Burger, topped off with a fried egg. OH-MA-GAWD. It was literally the best burger I've ever had in my life. Alexis and I typically order two or three entrees and split the food. We both regretted sharing this cheese burger. Absolutely life changing.
